I have this little project that's been well on it's way since August, and stumbled upon info about Lulu.com. I'm fairly sure some of you reading this journal have used it! I'd love your feedback, good or bad on it. That would help me tons!

Thanks guys! =D

The books I've bought from Lulu have been good quality, and the people I know who've used the service like it.

I use Createspace, which is a similar outfit, and have always been pleased with the product. My readers have been satisfied also.

Basically, if you want to self-publish something, there's no reason not to. I know a few artists who use these places to publish color print books. :)

I know several people who've had good experiences with it, and own a few Lulu-printed books that are good quality.

Okay...lulu.com was used with our studio to create pre-visualization concept books... or rather, all the concept work from the movies we've worked on.

PROS:
-EXTREMELY good quality in color printouts. Great paper, good color
-Fantastic turnaround, we uploaded to them and had a book by the end of the week.
-Good binding, we worked with coil binding, but I've also seen their perfect binding, and it's well done.

CONS:
-pricey... Good for a studio, not for a self publishing individual. To give you an idea, I went with a local publisher to do a project. 32pages saddle-stitched (stapled), full color with a full color cover at 8.5x5.5 inches? About $2.00 a book. To get the same one done with Lulu would have cost about $9.00 a book

Thoughts: If I needed to see what a book would look like put together and didn't have the means to leave my home, I'd get a few different copies done by Lulu.com. If I really LIKED one of the paper stocks in particular, I'd take it to my local publisher to get a quote done up.

I have a book purchased from Lulu (the Zen Cart one) and it's well-made, and has survived numerous trips and exchanges with my client ( ... )
