Rightyo.
Time to try the stupidly-simple attempt of Expandin' That ROM.

Take a backup of alltext.txt.rat. Call it alltext.txt.rat.bak or something.
Replace it with the copy here: http://darktwilkitri.thegreatbeyond.net/FE6/alltext.txt.rat
Now try making the patch and see if it works :

... except it wasn't. Damn. Ran out of room while building the scripts regardless of the .RAT update.

Works like a charm. One problem, though.

STR/MGC doesn't insert in right. It still stays in Japanese. =/
