Maybe it would be time to educate the neighbors on the benefits of landscaping that doesn't require frequent mowing?

Nineteen years ago I spent a summer in Tucson -- quite a culture shock for someone born and bred in Massachusetts -- but I was impressed with the number of city homes that had natural-style desert landscaping (xeriscaping or whatever it's called) instead of trying to force grass to grow. Maybe there would be one house on each block that had a grassy front lawn that was always being watered, and it stuck out like a sore thumb.

I'm not saying "don't have any grass at all." I'm just saying that less grass is often better, unless you have a large family that really likes to play touch football.

It's part of my long-range plan to reduce the amount of grass. I want to put in a rain garden and areas of shrubs and flowers. I love azaleas, so I want lots of those.

Ohhh, you got the all in one barrel composter? Let me know how you like it, I've been looking at the fliers (but had birthing class that day so couldn't go to the event and check them out myself).

Yes, it's the all-in-one. We haven't set it up yet, but I will let you know how it goes. We had a homemade one. It works fine but is full and has to "cook". I hope the new one will work as advertised and we can remove compost from the bottom.
