Roleplaying tourism

This is the obligatory "what I did on my holidays" entry.

So the most exciting thing I did on my holidays was to discover the brave new world of roleplaying tourism. During the second week I was based in Ashby, which is a short twenty minute drive from Nottingham. I've never been to Nottingham - but I have participated in a roleplaying game of Witchcraft set there. Had a nice drive around, parked near Wollaton Park and then went and peeked at the various locations. Who said Nottingham tourism was just about Robin and the Sheriff?!

I'm now slightly curious as to whether anyone else has engaged in roleplaying tourism before?

I went to Spain. I read books. I discussed art history and Deloitte's consulting department on the plane home. I decided that I have no interest in living in a beautiful, remote location in a foreign country.

I came back from Spain. I went to my management away day and got into fancy dress (I was a builder, although I didn't wear the fake arse). My colleagues were dressed in other types of fancy dress, including a most impressive array of "pop star" themed individuals dressed as the Village People. Wow.

I went to a spa in the aforementioned Ashby. I read books. I encountered body brushing and stayed in a suite (!) which was very exciting. I was highly antisocial and didn't sit with people at dinner. I read books.

Some of the books I read were Midnight Tides by Steven Erikson, The Darkness that Comes Before by R. Scott Bakker, the second Wraeththu trilogy by Storm Constantine and The Reality Dysfunction by Peter F. Hamilton. I also watched the whole of Buffy season 3 on DVD.

I came back via Oxford, hanging out with onebyone and complaining about the lack of blowing shit up, then going off to a party to celebrate a thirtieth birthday and the return of two sorely missed travellers. I missed seeing any babies at all due to apathy related delays. I found out more than I perhaps wanted to know about fan fiction.

I closed off my holiday by watching secondhandrick fiddle with computers, viewing a surprisingly small amount of Lost compared to the time spent trying to watch it and enjoying Chinese takeaway and chats with the aforementioned secondhandrick and with hearthfire.

Now back at work. I'm in a good mood, though, which seems to lead to really dodgy thoughts made worse by my colleague Simon, who is a Bad Man (tm).
