Caught in the Act
Ariadne really doesn't know who they're trying to fool.
Seriously.
Did they really think she was that stupid? It is kind of… actually, it isn't kind of, it is an insult.
Arthur's leaned up against one side of the desk, apparently very absorbed in what he's written in his notebook. Surely so. It is very difficult to read something that is upside down. His tie is crooked, and his sweater and shirt that had been so prim and ironed when he came in that morning are now rumpled. Also, that shirt is untucked, or at least one side of it is. He seems to have misplaced a shoe as well, but he's trying to hide that foot behind his other leg. The back of his hair is probably the biggest dead giveaway, really, since it's sticking straight up like Vegeta from Dragonball Z.
Oh, well, maybe the slightly more obvious giveaway would be the pitched tent and the rosy blush across his ears. She's gracious enough to try to ignore that though.
Eames… Oh, Eames. Eames is playing his part but weakly at best, and considering that he's a forger, he should be a much better actor. His hair is mussed too, though not as bad as Arthur's, and his shirt is missing about four buttons. He apparently has misplaced his belt (but Ariadne can see the buckle gleaming over the back of the chair). Also, he has Arthur's shoe in his back pocket… and that Cheshire cat grin on his face is pretty much lighting up the room while he flips through files without really seeing them.
"Oh, hello, Ariadne," Eames greets, and that voice… that smug little lilt to his voice… She almost wants to burst out laughing.
Arthur just clears his throat and never looks up, trying to remain in character even though it's probably clear to him that his notebook is upside down by now.
"Um, I've finished with your model of the maze, Eames, if you'd like to come take a look at it," Ariadne says, grinning.
"Brilliant," Eames says casually, dropping the files onto the desk… the desk with scattered papers and a tipped over lamp. "Lead the way, my dear."
Arthur glances up for just a split second, thinking that my dear must be referring to him, but when he realizes that it isn't and what he's just done, he looks back down to the notebook and turns noticeably redder.
Ariadne giggles, and Arthur's shoulders stiffen.
Eames places a hand on her shoulder and leads her out with the flourish he usually does when he enters or leaves the room, and even though she can't see him, she hears Arthur smack his forehead when Eames says to her, "I could have sworn I'd locked that door."
