I'm curious. In your opinion, who might you consider to be the public transport gods? I've always suspected Hermes. A number of the correct attributes line up, excepting, perhaps, swiftness. I'm also wondering how you think one might appease them ( Read more... )

Hermes conjures images of the fleet of foot. I suspect that public transport, which involves a good deal of standing around at a bus stop at 3am waiting for the 2:35 bus to get you home from the bar, is better represented by Demeter, who, among other things, is the embodiment of patience and suffering.

St. Rita the Meter Maid is trustworthy for all transportation needs. The 15th street concourse (el, trolley, subways, train) reminds me of Janus, doorways and all.

Public transportation has no Gods. A little known fact is that it was one of the evils released when Pandora opened the box.

There are no people in this world with more to teach us than the insane. They see things unveiled and we are the weak ones for not being able to relate.

Slip a note under his door fueling his paranoia and you will be blessed.

I believe that madness must be tempered if it is to be useful. Part of insanity is the inability to view oneself or the world clearly (even if one chooses to believe that some of the things that they see are quite real.) Another side of it is an inability to make change. As I've experienced it, magic must either be used to tear through these things, or those same things will overwhelm you. Most of my worldview would fail to work without more than a little sacred madness at its centre. But I've tried to interact with the insane once or twice before, and speaking to them of these things can only hurt them. They hurt enough; I would not exacerbate it. If I were to do anything, I'd offer him a jug of clean water. I haven't because I suspect he would think it had been drugged.
