December.

I've not been eating much. When I do I force myself, because it seems that I ought. I do get hungry, I suppose, but nothing is quite what I want. I do want to drink, however. Coffee, or black or detoxifying or calming tea, my father's brand of whiskey, good Scotch, strangely floral gin and tonics. Fuelling the machine is tedious. I want to push ( Read more... )

Why are you alone in the house?

I'm pretty pissed off at the sun, myself. It doesn't show up at my window until after 7:30 AM. The nerve!

Whitney is still here, but we have completely opposite schedules. She's at work and awake all night, I'm at work and awake all day. We usually only see each other when we're coming and going.

Beverage-wise, I presume to offer up two suggestions:

1) Trader Joe's Gingerbread Coffee, which just hit their shelves for the ho-ho-holidays: Vienna Roast spiked with bits ginger, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, and allspice. The aroma alone can bring cheer.

2) Mexican hot chocolate: Get a bar of real Mexicano chocolate, the kind you'd use for molé, made from unrefined cane sugar with a tad of vanilla added. Grate or mince it up, and add it to hot milk with vigorous stirring. For bonus points, adjust the overall alcohol level with a shot of Rumpleminze, Peppermint Schnapps, or equivalent. It'll mistle your toes!

And note as well that some time later this month the FinderWaifs (Penny, Zach, Liam, Tappy, &c) will be wandering down to my place for loud music, Fluxx, and other forms of fun. You should come, too...

Oh, lovely. I'm deeply in love with the Old City blend from Old City Coffee at Reading Terminal, too. The Mexican hot chocolate sounds excellent. I'm sure that my roommate would be pleased if I brought some home. Her grandmother is Mexican, so we like to celebrate her extremely tasty heritage.

That sounds lovely! Thank you for the invitation. FinderWaifs is some massively adorable word play. Bravo.

If your roomie is of Mexican descent, she can probably guide you to possession of the special wooden stirring/mixing/blending device whose name I can't recall that's used in making Mexican hot chocolate.

As for the gathering, there is no date yet. Not everyone is in town, though more are arriving each day. And this is the time of year when both work and personal schedules get hectic, and presence at familial events is a necessity. And, on top of that, some of the crew may be Wayfindering for a few days at Winter Game. But it will happen, and you'll be included on the invite list. Further, deponent saith not.

It looks like the get-together will be at my place -- 4426 Chestnut -- this coming Saturday, the 2nd. Time is not set yet.

Will you be going out to Katie's party the night before? That's when we'll probably be figuring out final details. (If you need a ride there or back, let me know and we can probably work it out...)

What omens does the city give you?

Also, are you free to hang out between the 27th and the 30th?

None that I can read.

I won't know my schedule much before then, but I'll certainly make time for you. How are you?

Yeah, I can't deal with this. With the rain in the summer, and now the winter, it feels like it hasn't been really sunny for a long time.
