Why do the same people that say that Harry Potter is evil, adore The Hunger Games?

My old church, who used to preach against HP (yes, what a waste of pulpit time) has even gone to the point of creating a whole month-long Hunger Games theme at the young adult's ministry.

Yes it is annoying but I feel that HP, the Twilight series, and Hunger Games were all inspired by Satan. I don't judge others for what they like however. I know a lot of people with beautiful hearts who enjoy the above. I certainly do not judge people for liking the above, even if I don't understand it. .. Just wanted to say.

Hmm. If I had to guess, I'd say because HP makes witchcraft look appealing. I'm totally with you though; I can't stand the HP hate. Love me some HP, and when I get around to it, I plan to read the Hunger Games as well.

I LOVE Harry Potter, too. And I understand why someone who doesn't understand the storyline would feel the need to stay away from it....but seriously, The Hunger Games is a really sick and twisted story line, it's just weird to me that it's being SO glorified by people who shun HP/Twilight/Lord of the Rings. The level of people's obsession with it ridiculous for the fact that they're so incredibly offended at other books/movies.

The Hunger Games was okay. Not my favorite. Definitely not good enough for me to want to read the next two books. I'll probably see the movies when they come out, but eh...I've read better.

I can somewhat understand people being wary of things, though outright banning of such things smacks of what Paul said about "do not handle". I'm always super surprised when people are wary of Lord of the Rings or Narnia, when they were written by Christians with strong Christian undertones. I actually know far more people who are closer to idolatry regarding LotR than anything else, however.

Ironically, I had the opposite reaction. The movie came out, I read about the story on wikipedia, and decided I'd rather read the book than watch it.

Haha yeah I know. Well, I guess to them, even LOtR and Chronicles of Narnia are still evil because of the wizards and magical stuff. Although I have had friends that considered it evil until they found out they're written by Christians with Christian imagery and symbolism...which doesn't make a lot of sense to me to be honest because you either see God in fantasy or you don't, regardless of who wrote it because all humans are wired with a desire for the things of God, whether they know it or not. On some level, every story is a retelling of God's love. That's why i love the fantasy genre so much :)
