I understand that. [Slight nod. Then he quirks his eyebrow.] So for you it's more about the meaning of the death you suffered rather than the burden of being an inmate here, yeah?

Ain't what I'd call a burden. I've been in and out of the slammer since I was ten. [The tone of his voice shows he kind of...really takes pride in that.] This ain't much different. But I worked damn hard to die the way I did.

No, I'm not just doing it for the Admiral. Can't speak for everyone else, obviously, but I'd be surprised if most people only stuck around because of their deals.

Ah. Thanks.

Though, not everyone believes they're capable of holding out for a greater purpose than the one they've already been promised.

I kind of figure just by sticking around for longer then a couple weeks proves they are. Sure, the deals we've made are important to us, but it takes a strong person to remember why they're important and stick by them no matter what stuff gets thrown at us.

Even I could guess. [He looks highly amused.] I could also guess another reason, but I won't.

[It's habit to take casual pot shots at the Doctor's intelligence and competence, even if Narvin doesn't really believe it.]

Isn't the one reason enough?

[Nine gets a little more serious here... But not very.] It is.

Still I wonder if you'll go right away if you graduate an inmate..

Dead. Any day.

But you knew that, [War] Doctor.

Yes, I did.

Has this place actually done nothing for you?

It's done too much.

Right. [His manic happy act fades into a more serious, careful one.]

Have you changed much now that the sword's gone?

I am here to save something very important to me. [The world :c]

Any task I need to dedicate myself to in order to get that will be undertaken. With enthusiasm!

So am I, in a way.

I have no doubts. [Grin!]
