Debate Circle...*sigh*

Aug 07, 2007 19:09

I just received the letter containing the UPM Debate Circle Admission Result.

I'll just quote a few sentences from it:
...we expect new members to extend our legacy...
That's a burden. *inferiority-complex acting up*

...We believe in you. The entire organization worked to hone the potential we see in you. In return, the Circle needs your ( Read more... )

Meh. I didn't do it on purpose! My head was all jumbled up.

If it had been on purpose, then I should've done far worse things. Like throwing a hive of bees while they're debating or casting voodoo spells on them. ROFL! xDD Joke!

Note: I'm explicitly saying the word 'joke' since some people might take this seriously when actually I'm just goofing off. To end this, I'll say a cliche, which is a famous way of ending anything. xDD It's better to be safe than sorry.

*is unexpectedly hyper today*

Apathy is crime for them, eh? >_> They sound a little too self-absorbed for my liking. Meh.

Did you get in, though? O_O

pero RJ, what makes you differ from clare then? there are other campers in the batch too. and there are people from med. from here, the conclusion is derivable: the difference between a debater and other people is not defined by the level of toxicity. the difference is that critical eye and critical tongue (both of which, as you yourself say, you have...)

any organization always favors continuity and integration. especially varsity organizations. admittedly, it may take weeks and months to do integrate, and to hone skills. but that's why membership in any organization does not last for a sem, or a year... it lasts far longer than that.

question is RJ, given the sleepless nights of retrospection, the adjudications you have given and received, and the interest in the art and sport of debate, will you let disinterest in current events and history sway you? aren't you in UP, in college, to get something more, to get better, to improve?

UP students are never defeatist. never broken. (wasn't that the point of THAT weekend?)

Maybe I should give the probation period a try.

Current facts about me:
1. I don't have time to read the newspaper, or maybe because I don't find time to read the newspaper.
2. I don't even glance at newspaper stands to check out the headlines.
3. I am bored by watching news on TV.
4. History kills me.
5. If I am to read/watch/listen to news, I unconsciously dispose uninteresting information I receive.

newspapers aren't the only sources of matter. most of the time, it's just plain logic. that's why what's necessary is the average person's knowledge.

everything else follows.

this is the potential people see in you (just as a commenter below acknowledges).

and just as you can opt to apply one among many different humor theories, you can opt not to get stressed over it, and instead, choose more feel-good defense mechanisms.

That is why I was partly happy that I didn't get to pass our college's publication even if I'm a Journ major. XD I hate commitment and the pressure to be committed. It's gonna drain the life out of you until you're now a walking zombie who couldn't utter a thing except the arts of debating. >:P

There was this org for acting/stage play directing in our college that seems good since they offer script writing as well but, after seeing my blockmates cut class and looking like people who hadn't slept for ages, I figured why engage yourself in something you like when stress and so much responsibility (add the ever annoying authority telling you what to do) would drive you into hating what you like? :/

Well, you don't have to enter that org to prove you have potential. ^^; We all know what you can do, RJ. And that's a fact that org would never realize. x]

You do have a point. A lazy procrastinator like me wouldn't like the extra responsibility.

*thinks about all the lazy afternoons I get to watch anime/j-drama*

I used to enjoy debating. I didn't know that joining this org would be very troublesome for me.

That was very nice. But I'm in a different place now, surrounded by different people. And people here won't recognize me unless you show 'em what I got.

But then again, recognition isn't all that, is it? I still wonder why many people strive to be on the top. *continues to babble*

XD

I'm in the school paper, and I'm pressured with assignments, so I've procrastinated my procrastinating. XD You should, too, if you really want this.

Er... people are idiots. They don't know what life is really about. Me included. XD

Hmmm..yea...I Should procrastinate my procrastinating. xD

But I should to it gradually. I'd go mad if I'd shift instantaneously from RJ the Procrastinator to RJ the Diligent. xDD

I feel that I don't have what it takes to excel in this sport, so why even try?

I get that feeling sometimes too, but if I continue to think that way, I won't be able to get anywhere in life. :P Take my math or science subjects, for instance. I dislike MST subjects in general & it usually doesn't like me back. But that doesn't mean I shouldn't try to study for the exams anymore. :))

I am flattered that they see potential in me but that's all they are...potentials.

That's all they're going to be if you stop now. &if you wanna get rid of the "debate after thoughts", I think you'll get more of them if you decide to stop since you'll keep thinking what could've happened had you decided to continue. (I'm not saying you should/shouldn't stop, though. :P)
