While reading some short stories just to read them I accidentally found a reference (probably one of the last references) to the "first sleep":
"`The people are in bed and after their first sleep now,' he said."

A few years ago I read probably in National Geographic magazine that prehistoric humans would sleep in periods of 3 or 4 hours with some time in between. I wondered if it applied to me but I thought we probably had evolved since then and our sleeping patterns changed. Then a few weeks ago I read
this article in the BBC. I find this whole thing interesting. People only stopped sleeping that way 100 years ago. Actually, people really haven't stopped sleeping that way. How many people wonder why they wake up in the middle of the night? I tried to figure out how to stop it from happening to me. Now I understand what it is and I plan for it, I go to bed a little earlier and am much happier and sleep just fine.
