quick spray of opinion

Someone blogged five things they thought were over-rated and it got me wondering if there is anything I think is over-rated. It's an interesting question because it's not that you don't like something. You can not like something and still recognise that it's good for others. Something is only really over-rated if lots of people rate it but really ( Read more... )

I've got one: the Twilight books. :P

I am sure you are right but I feel like I can only list things I've experienced and I should really catch up with the Harry Potter craze before the Twilight one. ;)

I've yet to read the Twilight books, but from I've heard of them, they sound like bad fanfic (about sparkly vampires).

I'm not with you on the crunchy peanut butter issue as I prefer it to smooth, but I AM with you on the Krispy Kreme issue. Overpriced American crappy glazed donuts, they are. Give me fresh hot cinnamon donuts from the local bakery any day!

Given my very reasonable concerns with crunchy peanut butter above, please outline why smooth does not conquer all before it. I know that we all have personal preferences, but I would like to hear some counter-arguments. Particularly to the holes thing because that is my biggest problem. I hate the destruction of my toast!

Because...

Crunchy peanut butter has crunchy bits...

and, non crunchy peanut butter doesn't have them.

Ergo, you're getting less value for your money by having non crunchy peanut butter.

Also,

I put it to you, that your destroyed toast is caused by you having either a) too thin bread, or b) having cold crunchy peanut butter which would not be as sharp if it was at room temperature instead.

The defence rests your honour.

I'm putting it on Helga's or similar, which is toast thickness not sandwich. Also I just keep it in the cupboard.

So it seems to me that I am taking reasonable due care with my toast thickness and peanut butter temperature...

At which point in time I'm curious - do you spread your peanut butter thin or thick?

I have this theory going that people who like smooth peanut butter like to spread their peanut butter thin, and that people who like chunky peanut butter like to spread it thick.

Hmm... that's a bit subjective because what do you classify as thick?

I like it right to the edges but I never have peanut butter alone; I always have lemon butter or blueberry jam on top (that's jelly for you I think). I certainly don't want an inch of it. ;p

*hehs* Put another way: I think people like smooth if they want it thinner than the chunks in chunky. They like it chunky if they want it thicker than that. It doesn't feel right laying it on thickly when you have smooth PB. The texture's all wrong.

I do taste a slight difference between the two, admittedly, but mainly I think it's just a matter of texture and how thick you spread it.

So if I spread it thick it won't rip holes in the bread? I think I'd have to kind of spoon it on to avoid that. I find that crunchy peanut butter is normally too dry to spread easily, hence the lethality of the nut bits.
