spelling bees are fun only as long as you keep winning, heh, i didnt get as far as nationals, you must be a psychotically good speller! :) go you!

"Psychotically good speller" is a good way of describing the other kids in the competition. Even the kickoff luau was tinged with the intoxicating flavor of blood and really big words.

After the competition was over, we had a bonfire of the official Spelling Bee study book, the Paideia, and the champ that year "mysteriously" burned her dominant hand.

It's intense stuff.

It was advertised on the Spelling Bee Bulletin Board. The champ was Wendy Guey, not a dude. She was from Palm Beach or somesuch.
