Yesterday I watched Joey Chestnut end Takeru Kobayashi's 6-year streak as champion hot dog eater at the Nathan's annual contest. My god, it's not even vaguely normal to be able to eat 66 hot dogs in 12 minutes

I'd heard that Kobayashi has suffered a jaw injury, so his days of eating championships may be at an end. Maybe that is the reason he struck out.

He did have an injury, but he still blew his own record out of the water with 63 hot dogs. At the close of the contest they thought it was a tie (then they had this bizarre recount that put Joey Chestnut up three more than previously counted). Kobayashi won't be retiring soon, unless they wire his jaw shut.
