the sound of the bell

i'm currently borrowing a friends' microwave (initially i received it for someone else who didn't need it as it pans out, and have since been storing it, but i think the initial get-rid has become a want-back-at-some-point, so i think i'm borrowing it). i've long been very suspicious of microwaves, and i'm still wary of them (perhaps i need to read ( Read more... )

Tip: if cooking things in the microwave, rather than just de-frosting, leave them in situ for 60 seconds after the ping of the bell as they'll still be cooking. This is especially important for liquids.

Ah ok. Lots of people don't seem to know this, and they have accidents as a result.

Oh, got any ideas for hot savoury vegan party food? Preferably not high in fat. There will be cake :-)

hmmm, i like marmite swirls - puff pastry rolled out, marmite spread on, then rolled up like a 'swiss roll' and cut into 'slice' and cooked in an oven - they don't take long. depends on fat content of pastry. i've usually been able to find vegan pastry in fridge or freezer of the co-op/other such store.

hmmm, hot food, tricky! i usually have a party in the summer!

vegesosage rolls are similarly easy, and tasty.

will see if i think of anything else.

cups of soup can work! =smile=

Microwaves are handy for defrosting, but we certainly don't use ours for the main source of cooking.
Although very handy for doing a quick baked potato:) I'm pretty sure the older ones gave out more radiation. Plenty of Microwave recipes online & books in library, for those who do use em:)

yeah, i was of that opinion (re damaging food as a nutrient source) - i've been tending to warm something through at a lower power setting for a bit longer.
