I want to write about this whole torture thing. You know what I'm talking about, right? The so-called "compromise" that gives Bush the right to detain people indefinitely and torture them? Yeah, that torture thing ( Read more... )

I read reports on how Republicans were already going to spin how Democrats who voted against torture - would be portrayed as soft on terrorism.

It sickens me

I heard that. It's so unbelievably craven and without morality that I don't know how these fuckers sleep at night.

Times like this I wish I did believe in God so I could at least take solace in the knowledge that these horrible people were going to burn in hell. But because I choose to be a rational person who doesn't buy into the idea of eternal damnation, I don't even get to have that.

I don't know where I stand on the God issue...but I HAVE to believe in Karma and I just imagine that all of them are going to end up in a pile of shame eventually...

Ugh. What I hate is how they fuck over any notion of human rights and human dignity, while simultaneously asserting that they are more 'moral' because of their stance on sexuality and procreation. What utter and complete bullshit. I hate that for many people the term 'moral' is now associated only with sexual chastity, and not with how one treats ones fellow humans.

Oh, man, that has been a major pet peeve of mine for about a decade now, when I realized that a lot of the kids I knew would say things like, "I don't have sex or drink alcohol because I have morals." I was like, "That's not what morality means, you dingbats!" The concept of right and wrong has been totally hijacked by the religious right.

I remember crying in 2000 too, and then I kept telling myself, okay, it's four years, how much damage can he do in four years? That made me feel better, but looking back.. damn, I had no idea. I thought at the worst, at the end of the four years we'd be back to where we were before Clinton. (Not even considering the war in Iraq part.) But ah, I was so young and naive.

Seriously. We had no clue.

The end result is that now, when anyone tries to pull that "But they are all the same!" shit on me, I make them tell me, to my face, that we would be in this much shit if Al Gore were President. No one can, because it's not true.

Yeah. Police Nation + Theocracy.

A few years ago I started having Handmaid's Tale flashes. And they aren't going away.

Some days, I tell Dave we are just moving somewhere else and that is IT. Not that we could ever do that, but, you know. BLEH.
