good hazing story, and one you'll always remember and retell. be proud of it. when I was starting out as a reporter I had a couple similar things happen to me, but within no time I was barking back at my sources as sassily as you please (when the need arose). you will, too.

Thanks for the encouragement. A week later I feel fine about it, especially as the rest of the department rallied around me (and the other student he was mean to).

In the technical world it has been my experience that older seasoned people always like to try to make newbies look like idiots. all while trying to hide what they don't know. its dog eat dog out there.

You are right about that! I think I'll be fine, though, as long as I realize that this is what is happening and not that it's any reflection on myself as a person.
