You are such a doll. I hope you are right. I had no idea how bad I wanted this until I found out the current editor suggested me as a possible candidate, nor until I realized that I might not get it after all.
Wow, everything sounds very busy and exciting. I'm just getting into my first 'proper' journalism paper now and I hope like hell I can find as interesting stories as you've got. Best of luck with the editor's position, I'm sure you are the most fabulous person for the job!
Thanks! And congratulations to you! May I ask which paper you are working at and what you'll be doing?
I feel lucky that I get to cover such a wide range of interesting topics. I can't imagine I'll be this lucky once I get out of school (and into a paper with more than eight staffers), so I figure I better take advantage of it while I can!
I've been sort of following the Steve Stanton stuff. Since I'm in Central FLA, it's obviously not on the news as much as I assume it is down south, but it's heartbreaking and disgusting and I'm just totally fucking appalled, really. I was actually thinking of you and if you were writing anything about it for the USF paper. My two best friends are down there for school so it made me think of you when they told me about it.
There isn't really much I can write about for the paper, because we only look at things related to the school and the downtown area. However, I'm also in Media Ethics, and so far I've brought it up in my semester long journal and my research critiques. I also mentioned it in my interview for the editor's job. I caused quite a stir among my interviewing panel when I said that I thought the Times was absolutely out of line to print such a story.
To their credit, though, they've run some really sensitive stories on the subject as well. I still have major issues with the editorial decision to run it, though.
