Warning: I talk about someone's suicide under the cut.
A little over three weeks ago I had an appointment with one of my Cardiologists. The one who thought I might need a hospital stay.
Well, I didn't hear anything back from the office about it. And, well, I consider no news to be good news. In this case? not really. Yeah. I found out last week that he committed suicide in his office the week after I saw him. Shot himself in the chest.
Just think about it for a moment. A Cardiologist killed himself by shooting himself in the chest.
The media hasn't said much about what happened. Apparently there was no specific note. But the medical community all know. And I found out because my visiting nurse used to work with people who worked for him.
The doctor's son had been to Iraq. Was getting ready to go to Afghanistan. But committed suicide instead. Since then the doctor had been depressed. But everyone thought he was getting better. He was engaged, and had just bought a house.
Then the morning of the 17th he went in to the office at 7:30 am, locked himself in his office and shot himself as one of his partners (who had been called in by a hospital admin. who had gotten an email from the doctor that he thought was 'troubling' and alerted the partner) tried to break in.
I feel so weird. This is the second one of my doctors to die by violence. One of my Orthopaedists was stabbed to death by his son.
Um. Well. Sorry to be so rambling.
