Well, Bush had to reward Libby somehow for being the fall guy. Consider the difference between the average citizen and those in power, however, for whom a $250,000 fine is a mere slap on the wrist.

I read that this could result in Libby being disbarred -- though once Bush's term is up, he'll fully pardon Libby anyway, and the administration will get off scott-free despite being directly responsible for exposing the identity of a CIA agent. It's so blatantly hypocritical, I want to scream.

Actually, I believe that evidence suggests that Libby was not the one who leaked Plame's identity, he just wound up taking the fall for obstructing the investigation. The actual source of the leak may well have been Karl Rove himself or someone else in the administration--at this point, we probably will never know for sure.

That's what I'm saying: By obstructing justice, Libby is protecting the administration.
