Yeah, I wasn't too thrilled with the Tarzan part either. Even Short Round never did anything that ridiculous. Oh well. Maybe I just need to see it again and let it grow on me. That, of course, would require forking more money over to Lucas and Spielberg. Quite the conundrum.
And another thing. . . did it seem like the focus was a little skewed at times? When I'm watching an Indiana Jones movie, I want to see Indiana Jones kicking the bad guys' asses, not somebody else. Wisely, in "Raiders", Indy went after the truck carrying the ark by himself. In "Temple", all three of them were in the same mine car (and thus could all be in the frame at the same time) and Indy did 95% of the ass whuppin', In "Last Crusade", they quite correctly decided to have Sallah and Marcus play very peripheral roles in the tank chase; Sallah takes the five camels ("I said NO CAMELS! That's five camels! Can't you count?"), disappears for the bulk of the scene, and shows up just in time to save dad from the tank. The focus never veered from Indy for the most part. Not so in this movie. Obviously the jungle chase scene was intended to be the big set piece, in the same vein as the other three I just mentioned, but there were long stretches where Indy was nowhere to be seen. I didn't mind the sci-fi bit...or the "Star Wars" homage...in fact, I laughed out loud.
