Speech

So I'm doing a speech on Homophobia (just a general informative one) Thursday in my Speech class. Here is a rough essay I made while creating my Outline assignment for the speech. It's a link to my myspace blog since the formatting turns out much better on it than over here. school, writing, speech

I'm not sure what this class is for but if you want a genuine assessment...it is very vapid and not convincing. If the point of the speech is to win and influence people, it takes more than pulling on their heartstrings with "Look how hard it is to be me!" stories. Try logic. Try getting to the root of WHY people are homophobic, because while religion is a nice, spiffy answer we cannot call it a CAUSE since societies without religion still exhibit homophobia. Talk about heteronormativity, talk about gender identity. I suggest the article "Theorizing Homophobia" by Barry D. Adam which covers cultural/structual theories, Gender panic theories, Socio-historical theories, and presents the ultimate solution to the problem that the GBLT community ignores for self-serving gain--Queer Theory.

doh. LJ kept screwing up on my last night so I couldn't reply when I tried.

Pretty much, I am just "lecturing" I have to avoid being persuasive, and my speech will be a bit different from this rough essay I typed up. This is just to help gather my thoughts and stuff. I am using religion based on the audience that I have.

You came up with some great advice though! I Kind of wish I was doing an actual paper about it. I changed some things around though ^_^

Oh yeah, got bluetooth in. I'll try to get to the post office next week!
