Fake Name Disease

Recently, I was at a party -- teeming with gay men-- when the host introduced me to some of the other guests. One of them was a guy, Dave, that I have known for a couple of years, whom I've seen at the clubs and the gym. The host didn't know we knew each other and introduced us. I was about to say "Oh I know Dave" when I realised that the host had ( Read more... )

OMG how could I forget! You're one of the first people I encountered in SG with Fakenameitis, haha. And I found out in such an embarassing way when I met you and your friends at some club and later asked them where you were and used your fake name and they asked me who i was referring to...

Haha! Hope you're not using that name anymore....

While some grow to accept themselves and become transparent in the process,
others struggle to achieve sanity by partioning their lives into disparate segments.

I agree... it's not always easy to be oneself, and stand and be named as one of the queer. Partioning... I like that description.

By the way, I love your entries, your poems and prose -- very restrained and sparse and beautifully crafted.

You have yet to see the ultimatum.

On top of having a fake name, I had this 'friend' who had different names for different group of people. And the only way for many of us to contact him would be to contact the 'chosen ones' who were allowed to have his contact information. And if he contacts you it will defintely not be directly tracable.

Madness, is he a pop-star or does he think he's one, and has to protect his privacy from would-be stalkers?

To make things even worse, and seemingly a-la Mediacorp serial drama - it happened that one of his colleagues were also one of my friends. We happened to grab a meal together, introduced as another name.

Had to pretend as if I didn't know him at all but had accidentally called him a few times, by the name that I knew him of. Not intentionally as in your case, and the new common friend of ours kept asking why I had been blurting out this name.

I really didn't know if I should be the one who was embarassed or should he.
