I went to the pharmacy today to buy some chewing gum - after banning gum a decade or so ago, the Singapore Government had to relent because of the Free Trade Agreement with the US and allow its sale but only in pharmacies. you don't laugh!
just wait til someone sticks a chewed piece and jams the MRT doors, the cops will be at your door, expecting you to account for your 5 sticks of gum. ;P

Haha, I really wouldn't be that surprised. The log book the phramacist had was filled with pages and pages of gum addicts. Soon they will have to create a stat board to oversee gum dissemination.

Honestly, why don't they restrict cogarette use this way? I'm sure the sheer inconvenience of having to buy cigarettes only at pharmacies and having to produce identification will help reduce smoking... and the attendant cancers, heart disease, bad breath, yellow teeth etc.

erm...because most of the ahbengs, ahlians, and ahzeks cannot write their names in english and they'll just buy from the illegal pirated cigarette sellers..
