What I think is at least as bad, and even more hypocritical, is the cancellation of what was clearly going to be a serious academic forum merely because someone might have suggested that other countries' laws take a different approach to homosexuality, and that such other approaches might be better for society. I'm relatively certain that the forum on "Sexual Orientation in International Law: The Case of Asia" was not going to include any "objectionable" photographic material, nor were those in attendance likely to be discussing any sex acts in any greater detail than they are spelled out in the relevant statutes that were to be discussed. To ban this on the premise that "Singapore's laws are an expression and reflection of the values of our society" (which independent country's laws are not) and that a DISCUSSION of those laws by foreigners was somehow an interference in Singapore's domestic governance is the height of intellectual dishonesty. and the criteria applied to justify prohibiting this forum is clearly one that is ( ... )
