voting

A variety of events conspired to make it very difficult for me to vote. First, voting day was the day I flew back down to LA from Berkeley, and I didn't notice this fact until the day that was the deadline for the secretary of state to receive my vote-by-mail form. I have vague memories of receiving pamphlets from the government with propaganda-like writing for and against various propositions. The language was so bombastic I never really felt I could trust it. Then on top of this, I would get postcards from Schwarzenegger informing me of which way he would like me to vote, which always felt kinda sleazy.

Schwarzenegger never sent me mailings. The propaganda is useful because you can figure out what groups support or oppose each measure - I always vote against any group with the word "taxpayer" in their name.

Oh that's true, I never thought of using the propaganda that way. (Then again, I wasn't a citizen at the time, so I couldn't vote anyway.) I could have looked up the groups that supported the measures as a proxy for identifying the intentions of the measures.
