On the train tonight I finished Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood and I am convinced it is one of the best things I've read in my life. A wholly satisfying story perfectly told through the voice of a woman, who you never can decide if guilty or not of a savage double murder. That takes some skill. Good on you for the reading list! Impressive! I've shared several of those and with one exception (Wicked-HATED that book), I enjoyed them all.

I need to read more Atwood.

Well i didn't say I loved ALL of them, but I did love most of them. Its about twice as many as I thought before starting the list.
Wicked is not among the 'one of the greats' but I did enjoy it. My favourites I think if pushed would be Handmaids Tale and Alias Grace, Crow Road and Player of Games, Vintners Luck and Miz, of course. With the exception of the last, I intend reading all of these again soon.
And yes! more! Margaret!!

Atwood is class. Have you read The Handmaid's Tale? That is one amazing book right there.

MMM yes one of THE books of the past year for me - I have a couple more shortlisted already by her. What's been your favourite read this year?

I dunno, actually, Greg - it feels like I've done a lot of reading so far this year but nothing has really grabbed me by the throat. Still, plenty more of 2009 to go >_>

ETA:Haha, sorry - I totally missed A Handmaid's Tale on your list there. I fail at reading comprehension.

heh he... I'll be kind. No ruler over the knuckles for you today. But I also remembered The Watchmen - I think that was in between Plebus and the Philosopher. So are there any other Atwoods you'd stow onto a long journey?
