My favourite Atwood book...which says a lot. Alias Grace was very good and Cat's Eye truly wonderful, but this will also be Peggy to me....

Favourite? Hmmm I reckon its going to take quite a bit for her to out-do Alias Grace for me. That was really something else. But Handmaids Tale was pretty amazing too. She somehow manages to write in the voice of different eras without missing the heart of the characters.

<3 MA but on a slightly different tack, I think I've understood something about the why the whole "case for atheism" thing misses the mark for so many people - cause for many or maybe most churchgoers, belief / dogma / cant / theology is irrelevant, they are there for the social aspect of church. For many people it's not about some reward in the hereafter, it's a sense of community and social structure and belonging and sometimes a sense of power, right here and right now. And to those people, this sentence is going be ... "yeah, so what?"

Its definitely about power and belonging, which is why I find it so infuriating that people try to use that silly old book to tell me how to live my life.

but have you thought about how to talk to people whose belonging to churches is not based on "theology" (or belief etc)?
