Is it safe to guess that Speirs is with Dog Company at this point in the timeline? and if so, would he want to ride in the race? :)

Well Smokey's a middle-class boy so I think he might've been riding horses from an early age...
He'd like to be involved, but definuitely not on the gambling side - he's too cautious for that.
