part i.
Character name: Hellboy
Fandom: Hellboy/BPRD
Species (vampire, werewolf, what have you): Half-demon/half-human
Character powers:

Hellboy is superhumanly strong (how much so is never specified, but it's enough to be able to jump up on very large monsters and beat them down) and a bit faster than one might expect for his size (though not super-speedy). He is extraordinarily tough, with an ability to heal from wounds that would fell lesser men many times over. Fire doesn't bother him (unsurprising, for a creature bred in the pits of Hell, although explosions can still knock him around) and he has survived for years on end with little to no food, (drinkable) water, or air. Indeed, Hellboy has been identified as deathless, unable to be killed unless he himself allows it (which, it has been suggested, he is fated to one day do, but that day hasn't arrived yet).

His right hand, an oversized artifact of stone as blood red as the rest of him and containing the right hand of an angelic spirit, is the Right Hand of Doom. Its primary ability, in the eyes of those who would see him use it, is to unleash and command the seven-headed dragon, Ogdru Jahad. He himself, however, has absolutely no intention of ever doing this, so as far as he's concerned, it's indestructible and otherwise generally unaffected by either physical or magical effects (which can make it useful as a shield, and also makes it capable of touching (punching) otherwise intangible things/people/ghosts/etc.), doesn't feel pain, and packs some extra oomph into his punch, at the expense of not being very good for doing sensitive things with.

As a paranormal investigator for over half a century, Hellboy has accumulated a great deal of knowledge about the occult and the supernatural. He isn't a witch and he's not going to just start throwing magic around, but the power from both sides of his family is in his blood and he can use it if he has to. He knows the occasional ritual (usually protective or banishing), can recognize plenty more, and could be taught if sufficiently motivated. The pockets of his duster and the pouches on his belt are filled with all sorts of charms, amulets, talismans, etc. from places and faiths from all over his world, usually useful for protection or putting some extra pain in beating down a supernatural baddie.

Hellboy's latest acquisition, and one which stands out from anything else he usually carries around with him, is Excalibur. Yes, the Excalibur. Not much has been explained about the sword so far, but it can be presumed that despite its color, it isn't made from actual gold (which wouldn't make for a very good sword), but rather an unnamed golden metal found in fae and Hyperborean weapons, which is unusually tough and (as in the legends of Excalibur) carries an unusually sharp edge capable of cutting through steel. Also, while some legends make them different swords, in the Hellboy universe, Excalibur is also the Sword in the Stone, and thus when driven into a rock, it cannot be drawn out again by anyone whose blood is not of the Pendragon royal line (such as Hellboy himself). (Drawing it out was also supposed to cause the noble dead of Britain to rise out of their crypts and flock to Hellboy as his army, but that was back home and not really relevant in other universes.)

part ii.
1.) Is it acceptable for your character to be mind-controlled or persuaded? How susceptible are they to mind control, hypnotism, or suggestion?

I'm open to it. Hellboy can be influenced if he's caught by surprise and/or it's something very small that he doesn't notice (he's been stunned and otherwise mentally bull-rushed by "the whammy," as he puts it, more times than he could count), but once he's got his metaphorical feet under him, he's very strong willed and capable of resistance.

2.) Is it acceptable for your character to have their mind read? Does this include traumatic memories? What is their mind like (disturbing, orderly, joyful, surprisingly empty, etc.)? If the character has psychic walls or preventative measures against psychic interference, please explain.

Sure; it actually happens to him often enough anyway. This also applies to traumatic stuff. Hellboy's mind is reasonably well-ordered -- he's got a lot of lore and experience in his head, and some ordering ability is necessary for that knowledge to be useful -- and probably generally kind of sad, because he's been through a lot of crazy horrible stuff in the last few years. He doesn't have any natural shielding or the like, but if he puts some effort into it, he can clamp down with sheer will, and if it really comes to it, he's probably got a ritual involving some charm from one of his belt pouches.

3.) Are thoughts mentioned in narration acceptable for a telepath to pick up? Yes.
4.) What about emotions, in the case of an empath? What sort of general emotional reading would such a character receive from yours?

Emotion reading is fine. Just what they pick up will of course depend on the moment, but generally speaking, he'll usually be offering some mix of well-meaning friendliness, weary annoyance, and underlying sadness. Anger is also possible, but would probably not need an empath to detect.

5.) Are there any aspects of your character's mind, emotions, or memories you would like to be picked up, mentioned, or used in character? Conversely, is there anything that should not be noticed, or at least never mentioned?

He knows the Secret History of (his) World, and what is expected of him, and that he's the Rightful King of England. He's still trying to figure out just what to do about all of that, which makes it fair game to get into.

part iii.
1.) Physically speaking, what stands out about your character? Imposing size? Physical scarring? Tattoos?

He's huge; bright red; has hooves, a tail, and stumps on his forehead where a pair of mighty horns would be if he didn't keep them cut down; and his right hand is huge and made out of stone.

2.) Is your character immune to any of the following: poisons, chemical agents, telekinetic influence, radiation, or types of illnesses?

Poisons, chemicals, and radiation can probably have some temporary effect, but Hellboy's regenerative capabilities will cause him to recover eventually. He's probably also immune to all but the most heinous illnesses. Telekinetics, however, can have a field day with him.

3.) Is your character physiologically different from a human in any way? This can include their blood, skin, hair, etcetera being made up of something unusual or simply differing in construction and durability.

His right hand -- The Right Hand of Doom -- is made of indestructible stone and houses the hand of a watcher spirit. Despite this, it's actually fairly functional as a hand, albeit not as good with delicate things as his left. The power of the Hand may or may not have some contributory effect on his health and durability, which are already improved by being half-demon. He's much tougher then an ordinary human, and can heal back from just about anything. Also, as previously noted, he has cloven hooves for feet, a tail, and horn stumps.

As for his blood, whoo boy howdy. Hellboy's blood is where most of his demonic power is concentrated. A syringe of the stuff injected into a monkey made it turn into a demon-like beast, and when Hellboy died once, a dead man absorbed all his blood and was transformed into something like the Beast of the Apocalypse that Hellboy was intended to be. Suffice it to say, it's bad, bad news, and also a powerful sympathetic link back to him, so he tries to be careful with it, even if he still ends up spilling it a lot.

4.) Are you amenable to having your character be harmed in any way? How far are you comfortable with injury to you character going? Does this include being fed on by vampires, willingly or unwillingly?

Getting roughed up is probably the most common experience in Hellboy's life. Given his ability to heal, I'm willing to let things go pretty far before he starts recovering. Hellboy would never be a willing blood donor -- see #3, above, for why he wouldn't allow it -- but I'd be okay with vampires at least trying anyway, with the caveat that he's pretty capable of putting the smack on anyone who puts the bite on him.

5.) Is it acceptable for other characters with abilities of shapeshifting or disguise to imitate your character? Does this include ability mimicry?

Shapeshifting would be okay. As for ability mimicry... His own personal abilities: yes. The capabilities of the Right Hand of Doom: No. Generic mild occult-y ability: yes. Excalibur: No.

part iv.
1.) Can your character's presence or aura be noticed by other characters, and how would it look/feel to them? How would it manifest to a character with no supernatural abilities, if at all?

Given how relatively normally most people react to him unless they already specifically know who he is, I'm going to say that his aura is probably only as noticeable as any other human's, and probably looks similarly.

2.) Can your character be affected by magic spells and curses? Yes.
3.) Can your character be affected by sin and corruption, and be tempted toward expressing their darker urges (of whatever flavor)?

I think he can be tempted, and as noted above about mind control, something small could possibly get past him, but between (IC) his willpower and (OOC) just how bad it would be if he really let himself go, I'd have to say that this can't really amount to much.

4.) What sort of sins is the character prone toward, and how might they best be tempted, if you are interested in such an event?

Wraaaaaath, so much the wrath. He's got a bad temper, and he knows it, and it's one of the things he struggles against the most.

5.) Are you amenable to the character receiving prophetic visions, including as part of a plot? Sure.

part v.
1.) Is canon-puncturing or fourth-walling acceptable? We encourage people to tread extremely lightly with allowing their character to learn they are fictional. It's fine. Hellboy's already used to being kind of famous.
2. Is threadjacking allowed? Under what circumstances? I have no problems with threadjacking.
3. Is it acceptable for canonmates that are updated further than yours to inform your character of events yours has not yet experienced? Yes.
4. Are there triggering or upsetting topics you would like other characters to avoid mentioning to yours for the sake of continued comfort (racist words, homophobia, self-injury, etc.)? Not especially, although I will defer to others' triggers if they come up.
5. Are there any additions you would like us to make to this survey? No, I think this is already plenty huge as-is.
