A few of us decided to go down to Melbourne over New Years, much alchohol was consumed, and little sleep was had over the 4 nights we were there (mostly due to bad hostels).
We met up with some friendly natives, and they showed us around a little, took us for a drive out to Bells Beach, which was quite a nice place full of quite nice flies.

And what's the best tip for not attracting the flies whilst I'm over there?

Flies are inevitable, you can get insect repellents and the like, but they won't do much good if you're out on a hot day sweating like a sweaty thing. But I did find that flies were less prone to landing on me than other people, possibly due to the fact that my shirt was synthetic, and didn't allow the sweat to escape into the fly-wielding open air.
