This, friends, is what happens when there are suddenly a whole lot of new things taking up your time and attention. I was already behind on my reading goal, and now I'm a lot more behind - and it's okay. Life is full of seasons, after all

I choked up a few times in NYC when I realized how many people I interacted with on a daily basis were in the city when 9/11 happened and how terrified they must have been. Especially when the Boston marathon attack happened, I remember people coming into the bakery the next day wondering if we'd be next but knowing that staying home wouldn't keep them safe (this was before we knew who did it). The NYC connection does make it all seem more real and helps one empathize with those who were there!

On a more cheerful note, that's one of the main reasons I love travel-- standing in a place makes it much easier to imagine what happened there and that's so exciting to me.
