i still write poetry. but you always seem to be in them.

"It's a beautiful sound,
the rain,"
she says to me.
"It takes my mind off of things."
Little does she know
I have a mark
to the right of
my belly button,
misinterpreted
because one cannot turn another on.
"I'm peeling my
nail away"
in odd increments,
she whispers in my brain.
The funny thing is
it's all in my head
and all she wants to do
is
     watch
