Here is a little update on what I have been doing in the wool department this past month.
Around x-mas time, D. bought me a Corridale fleece. I spun up some on the drop spindle while we explored the East Coast. Once we were home, I tried my hand at the wheel. Here is the results washed and dried. The darker stuff is unwashed. Quite the difference, eh?!
Here is my first project with my own yarn. The pink stuff was a pre-dyed roving that I mixed with the Corridale, then spun and plied together. It turned out a lot nicer than I was expecting... and D's co-worker (who received these as a birthday gift) was very pleased as her hands get (insert German accent) "so cold while I am typing".
Now I am preparing a black (actually, black sheep tend to be more of a brownish-grey when all is said and done) Romney fleece for spinning. Romney is a lot different from Corridale- Corri. is rougher, and it is hard to get a "thin" thread. Rom. is so silky, and naturally spins (I tried a little on the drop spindle) into a fine thread. I have a least one big project planned for the Rom., and once I spin up some more of the Corri., I'd like to try my hand at plant dying.
Would you like to have a pair of homemade hand warmers? Well, I would like to make you some. So, here is to my first give-away! You'll have a choice of the Black Romney w/ or w/t color, or the white Corridale, w/ or w/t color. Leave a comment listing: 2 things you like about your physical (body); 2 things you like about your mental (we are all smart in our own unique way); 2 things you are talented at; 2 things you absolutely love, and your favorite color. Come on, don't be shy. I want to hear you gals talk yourselves up a bit. (in a good way of course =) ) Anyone can enter. If you don't have a blog identity, please leave me something which will distinguish you in the draw. Likewise, if you are "new" to my journal, please let me know how you found me. I am curious about such things =).
Let's see... we need a cutoff date... how about... I'll draw a name February 16th (uh, that's New Zealand's Feb. 16th)
