Art, music, and the rock n' roll image

There's been something thats been on my mind for a while and I think I have an idea. It started at our first show, the first thing I noticed was me and my sandals and socks and khaki's and the rest of my band in t-shirts and shorts and teacher-like hair cuts surrounded by other bands in exaggerated "rock n' roll" clothes and haircuts mimicing rock ( Read more... )

very true
Every weekend or so I pay those guys to entertain me and they often to a damn good job of it. [and as you said the key word in that sentance is entertain]
and I can tell some of them put a lot of work and really put their heart into their music and its something they're really proud of and I appreciate and admire that in them.
So I say
No harm done
they do their thing and they do it well
[not that you weren't right about a lot of what you said]

well, i wouldn't say totally no harm done, thats true in your case. i just think people need to acknowlegde that fact, alot of people take it alot more seriously than that, like i said. plus, i've got an enourmous penis.

yeah dude but u gotta realize its almost futile to merely recognize these differences and u gotta know that u cant play a game no one else is playing.. u gotta play theirs.. or at least make them think ur playing theres while pulling them into yours.. im basically saying u should consider appealing to the 'scene' a little more so its not such a radical idea to invest a lot into your band.. imagine the people at a concert seperated into the two of the three key players in social epidemics.. you have the mavens.. the people who actually know about music and have a good taste and are well respected when it comes to music and quality.. these are the peopel who are unaffected by the exaggerated styles and see past the 'scene.. these people u would already have on ur side... then u have the connectors.. the popular kids.. the ones who can take an idea and manage to send it out to many other people effortlessly.. the guys who know every single person at the show... these guys rely on their subjects for power in a not so obvious way.. they ( ... )

yea, i see what you're saying but that would still be selling myself out and doing something that i dont want to do just to appeal to a group of people. i've never heard the term "mavens" but thats a cool term. just read what i wrote a few times, i think we're talking about different things.

lol wow ur right i re-read what u wrote and i somehow managed to create a completley differnet message the last time i read it.. i think i got a pre-discrimatory idea and took it and ran and made everything else match it.. which is really kinda cool.. its one of those weird/interesting things dealing with the mind.. and it makes me remember all those times my mom has said u only hear what you want.. maybe shes right but its involuntary i swear.. lol... aaron.. when are u gonna come throw rocks at my window.. actually u could just knock on my door since it leads str8 outside.. but id rather pretend that door isnt there for this special occasion.. but yes when are u gonna come throw rocks at my window and serenade me with profound modest mouse songs?

Aaron, I love you. You put this quite beautifully. I feel like now when I want to explain this to someone, I should print this entry and hand it out like flyers instead of mumbling and stuttering nervously when people ask...
