First and foremost I got Kage out of hock today and I left, quite literally, with an armful of stuff in addition. I also got a crash course in giving her fluids at home, but compared to the process I used to do when
h0h0 was ill this is a piece of cake. Seriously, no problem whatsoever. I also got one of those nifty red biological hazard bins for the needles. She's got kitty pro-biotics in the fridge which had me freaking out 'cause they're literally bigger than some of the capsules I take on a daily basis. Fortunately I went to my new favorite website on CRF and they gave me some great advice on how to deal with that as well as very handy hints about how to coax her into eating more.
I feel...empowered :)
But the best thing is how much better she looks after the treatment. Yeah she's got two shaved legs and one ugly tumor, but aside from that she's wide-eyed and perkier than I've seen her in months. The vet was absolutely beaming when he showed me her labs from the start of the process and then today's. She's almost back to the normal range after just one treatment! To keep up the momentum I'm going to give her fluid treatment at home for the next 10 days then they'll run more tests and if things are still stable we'll focus on the cancer.
In the meantime when she hasn't been following me around from room to room she's curled up napping like she hasn't slept in days. Given that she had an uncomfortable IV in and a collar on for the past two days that's actually pretty likely. Poor baby. I'm sure she'll make up for lost time now.
Oh and Pye went from constant wailing all day to instant sanity and contentment as soon as she got out of the carrier. Seriously, it was like a switch got flipped in his walnut-sized brain and suddenly everything was ok again. Though I must admit earlier today he had me actually going, "Aww..." I took the cover off of Kage's bed and washed it while she was away ('cause I'd never have the chance to do it while she was here) and Pye actually got onto the foam bed, buried his nose in the scent of his missing sister, then curled up and went to sleep. He never sleeps on the floor, he just doesn't, but he missed her enough to do it today and it was just too cute.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who sent good thoughts and positive energy Kage's way, it seems to be working!
