"Ow! Ow ow ow!"
Sesshoumaru raised an eyebrow incredulously. It was one of his limited facial expressions, the others being boredom (usually), disdain (often), curiosity (seldom), surprise (rarely) and warmth (rarer still). Kagome felt rather privileged to have seen them all.
"It hurts," Kagome huffed irritably. "I know you probably think I'm a big baby, but I usually don't do things like break a bone in my foot."
"You chose to fight a demon with a bow in arrow in close combat in a heavily wooded area," Sesshoumaru muttered.
Kagome threw her hands up. "Well, what else was I supposed to do?! It's not like I was trying to trip over the stupid root. Besides, I couldn't have let those two little girls get eaten!"
"You could have," Sesshoumaru corrected, pulling the bandage tight and tying it. "Though it is not in your nature."
"No," Kagome agreed, taking the hand he offered her. "Rin would argue that it isn't in yours, either." She gingerly put her injured foot down, wincing as sharp pain shot up her leg.
"Shall I carry you?" Sesshoumaru offered. To a stranger, he would simply have sounded bored, but Kagome took it for the concern it was.
"I'm fine," she said, gritting her teeth. She began to walk back the way they'd come, in an odd limp-shuffle.
In one fluid motion, Sesshoumaru lifted her up onto his back. She squeaked as she got a mouthful of fur.
"You will slow me down," he explained. "And you are fatigued. We have been traveling for quite some time."
"Thank you," Kagome said quietly, pressing a kiss to his cheek. She hummed happily as the furry thing (what was it, anyway) wrapped around her, creating a warm cocoon.
It'd be good to be back at their castle, but Kagome thought she'd probably miss the piggyback rides.
