Violence at Political event?

Jan 09, 2011 10:29

Who would have ever seen that coming. I mean really, bring a gun to a political event in America and something bad happening, what would have been the odds of that?

I think the most funny part.. (or more like the sad part is )
despite all glenbeck and similar people's violent rethorics...
they suddenly distanciated themselves and claim this dude is "totally not super right wing unstable tea party republican"

It's not that funny, because he isn't.
Reports from people who knew him were emerging on websites yesterday. In 2007 he was a self-proclaimed liberal. http://www.businessinsider.com/woman-who-says-she-went-to-school-with-alleged-shooter-says-he-met-giffords-in-2007-2011-1#ixzz1AUH1UP8o

The actual news sites won't print that yet, but they are saying he hates religion and he smokes pot. That's NOT a Republican. I saw other reports and archived sites showing he supported Pelosi. Again, NOT a Republican.

But people are jumping blindly on the hate-wagon (like typical furries) with the "ZOMG, STOOPID TEABAGGER".

Gets real old.

You're welcome.
Yeah, that's what I have heard too, but I have my doubts about that.
Who follows Palin or goes to her website? I mean, I'm Conservative, and even I do NOT go to her site ever.

Plus, one can't blame a website for this. If so, where is personal responsibility? In America, we refer to politics as "political battles", but SANE people don't take this literally. Sane people don't show up to elections with an Uzi, thinking they're going to literally "battle it out".

Obama spoke of "battling" with his political dissenters by saying "If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun,” Obama said in Philadelphia last night. “Because from what I understand, folks in Philly like a good brawl. I’ve seen Eagles fans.”But should we all blame Obama for this? After all, he said "We bring a gun" in reference to politics. Maybe the shooter heard that and brought a gun to the political "Battle". Silliness! Of course we're not saying it's Obama's fault for bringing up guns in politics. So Palin should not be blamed for using a graphic ( ( ... )

Let's be careful to not jump to conclusions until more facts are in and we look to reliable news sources ( ... )

What party was the woman shot with anyway? I don't really know. Though that really wasn't what I was getting. Simply put, it's just not a great idea to allow fire arms to an emotionally charged environment like a political event (though there's a law proposed right now that would allow just that from what I saw on the news this morning).

I live in Pennsylvania, probably an NRA captial of the world so no, I'm not concerned with attempt to restrict rights, I'm more advocating a common sense idea of, "A time and place for everything". I don't know, I'm not sure I'd carry a loaded weapon in, say a new born baby ward. Can/could you? Probably, though I don't see the sense in doing so ( ... )

Hold on tight as the typical media - who are not in the business to inform facts, but to sell ads by getting people worked up - spins the hell out of this. Source to source will report different details, all equally appalling in order to get the 'common guy' worked up and watching more intensly so they can be exposed to more ads.

It will be some time before the facts come out.

This is true. When I woke up this morning it was the first I had heard of it (I watch Meet the Press on Sundays). So, I wondered what the big network 'news' stations were doing in covering this so I turned on MSNBC and FOX News. One network was reporting who was shot and going on about how this woman's office was attacked before during the summer after the health care debate, while the other was getting opinions from some Father (don't know what denomination since all his under graphic said was Father (name) ) on the religious opinion on what happened.

Neither really said anything about the current condition of the shooter until much later but no motives were given as to the why.
