I just told a new mother that she has been overpaid. Reason being that the idot who conducted the maternity interview has given her the wrong information. I had to break the news. She was in tears and I feel like shit as I think I have just ruined her Christmas.

Wish I had more valum-it would make the sick feeling in my stomach go away.

It isn't your fault, but I know how you feel. When I was at BUPA, I'd have to tell people that we weren't going to pay for their operations. People who shelled out hundreds, maybe thousands of pounds a year for medical insurance in the hope that if something bad happened to them, were told that, because of "company policy" they would have to pay what we should have been paying for. The bad feeling is difficult to shift, but it will get better.
