So I'm sitting here watching Alien for the 527,493rd time and wondering... what is it about blue-eyed bearded men? What attracts us to a certain "type"? Are we just wired that way?
Aw shucks. :) Watching TS reminded me that I'd scanned it (before it fell apart).
Ya know, that is one perfect film. Scott's attention to detail never fails to amaze me. Of course Giger's work had a lot to do with the organic feel of it, but I'm still in awe.
Since Kubrick and Scott no one has raised the bar. Wonder if it will ever happen again?
I think Alien especially has been one source of inspiration for current horror films, though I've never managed to get into that.
Just saw a cool docu focusing on Robert McKee talking about Giger's work and how it assembles everything we are afraid of, especially the male angst when it comes to the process of birth (wee alien breaking through the chest). Cool stuff.
I've never been much for horror films either, with the exception of a few ancient Karloff films. I like the other-worldly aspect of sci-fi because at it's best, anything is possible.
McKee was right. The first time I saw Giger's Necronomicon I was freaked-out (before I was fascinated). Sometimes I still have to look with one eye closed.
