more book goodness

Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman by Haruki Murakami is out, go get it, it's good. Twenty-four short stories, some reprints but plenty new. My only gripe is the title, which feels like a marketing brain fart. A lazy tag-along on Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, maybe? The British version was issued under that title as early as July; I saw many, many copies of it in bookstores in (surprisingly Murakami-obsessed) Norway.

I guess that shoots my theory. Dang, I was all prepared to blame Knopf.

I wonder how and why author pick up followings in some places but not others. Jonathan Carroll, who writes good stuff with a somewhat similar feel to it, has barely cult/lower-midlist status in the US, but he's a major star in Poland.
