All right! So today I was linked to something with a ton of absolutely fascinating information. I'm posting it here for easy reviewing and for the ease of anyone else who might wish to read it~

Why did Wilhelm aim for Eternal Recurrence?

What really was Wilhelm, who aims for Eternal Recurrence? For what kind of reason did he aim for Eternal Recurrence? And, whatever kind of deep connection did he have with chaos and Maria?

<>
The collapse of the whole universe which would envelop even the Upper Domain due to the scattering consciousnesses, and the wiping out of the Lower Domain (Dimensional Universe) caused by the Failsafe to avoid that collapse-- both would result in the same thing: that our human world would completely vanish.
In order to save our very Dimensional Universe itself from both of these threats, Wilhelm chose Eternal Recurrence.
Repeating the same fate, Eternal Recurrence does not negate the history which will once again move forward toward the threat of collapse. Nor will it negate the history that was painted in conflict and pain. But it is something that affirms all of such human affairs.
In order to keep the Dimensional Universe from being denied, the one who must choose Eternal Recurrence is one who accepts every pain.
Those who wish to change the past cannot implement true Eternal Recurrence. There are many people who wish to return to the past. However, the basis for that wish is a desire to adjust the past. But when unable to receive the regrets that dwell in the past, the present should be eliminated, and wanting to change the past is the cause of that.{iffy} That is something that is human.
Accepting every past that occurred in reality, without denying any of it, will lead to affirmation. This truly is the strength of the transcended man.
And so, the transcended man imposes on all people the repeating of a Hell-like history. It has been the only means so far that can be done for the sake of protecting the Dimensional Universe.

<>
chaos is the existence that was actualized into the real-number domain by the power of Anima, the Failsafe for the sake of preserving the entirety of the universe, which includes the Upper Domain. Maria is the existence that was actualized into the real-number domain by the power of Animus, the function for the sake of restraining the power of Anima from running out of control. And there was also a power with the function for the sake of preserving the very Dimensional Universe, the Lower Domain, itself. That actualized existence was Wilhelm. In the same way as chaos and Maria, he too was an existence that was actualized into the real-number domain by a power that emanated from the imaginary-number domain.

<>
Just as chaos could instinctively use Lemegeton, Wilhelm possesses as a part of himself the Compass of Order and Chaos. Having lost all memory due to Eternal Recurrence, he instinctively comes to discover the power that he himself possesses by intently watching the movement of flowing consciousness. And then, by reading the movement of consciousness there, he begins to understand what he must not fail to accomplish.
He must protect the Dimensional Universe. In order to fulfill the reason for existence that was burdened on him, in order to escape from a future that was predetermined and inescapable, Wilhelm submerges himself in darkness, and from behind the scenes, spinning people, history, and events, he endeavors to guide all to Eternal Recurrence.
With each Eternal Recurrence, he repeats painful decisions such as these from a clean-slate, and continues to protect the Dimensional Universe. It is so that he can protect the 'fragile world that traverses atop the thinnest thread'.

Character Correlation Diagram, from the Start of Episode III to before the Ending

This outlines the relationships of people in the Lower Domain up until just before Eternal Recurrence was prevented. With Wilhelm in the center, and the Testaments that had become imaginary-domain existences as an axis, various people form complicated relationships. The sentiments of so many people fold and overlap, and countless lives and deaths mix together, and with an unending number of stories being threaded, time continues to be spun towards just one ending. That very thing was Wilhelm's aim.

<>
Dimitri Yuriev, whose figure had vanished from the forefront of the stage of history, revived by using the body of the Kukai Foundation's Representative Director, Gaignun Kukai. And by doing so, he conspired with the parliament's Salvator Faction, reemerged into the Federation Government, and began to strong-arm them.
Also, the anti-UMN organization Scientia, via contact with Shion who had resigned from Vector, came into deep contact with the darkness spreading in back of the UMN.
The movement of these things was also not unconnected to Wilhelm.

<>
    Following the instruction of Wilhelm, the Testaments acted to implement Eternal Recurrence. They acted so that certain people would incite the awakening of the Vessels of Anima; so that certain people would incite the awakening of Maria; and so that certain people would eliminate those who would interfere {iffy}
At the heart of those actions were each one's own strong thought. They selected by their own will, not the commanded action itself, but a situation that was gained as a result of it, and carried it out as their own desire. By that meaning, the same as the other people, these men also were made to dance by way of Wilhelm's expectation.

<>
Even Wilhelm, the one behind everything, loses all memory by Eternal Recurrence.
Wilhelm, too, at the same time that Eternal Recurrence is achieved, forgets everything, and returns to an original state. He returns to a state where the meaning of his own existence, the reason, the purpose, the role-- all of it is unknown. It is the same as with all humans who worry about and grope for the meaning of their birth and the reason they live.
By gazing at the human consciousness that streams through the Compass of Order, he comes to understand the world. By gazing at the human hearts that live in the world and by understanding the world that surrounds himself, he comes to discover what he himself can do. And then, realizing that the world is drawing near to the crisis of collapse, in order to avoid it, he considers what can be done. What could he do? What should he do? What would he do?
Although many people seek a glorious dream during their short lifetimes, wish for a life that is full of glitz, and utilize their surroundings to gain economic strength and authority, Wilhelm acted thinking only to save the world from crisis.
His actions of forming the root of every organization and spinning society and history from behind the scenes were completely altruistic.
For thousands of years of history, many people's quiet everyday lives had to change into blood-smeared nightmares. Politics were spun; economics was controlled, and civilization was utilized. There was even so much hateful and cursed words raised that it was incalculable.
And Wilhelm, clearly conscious of the aim for Eternal Recurrence, recognizes that history such as this will once again repeat. In order to repeat a blood-smeared history, history will continue to be stained in blood. Because, if the world that wants to cover its eyes is not affirmed, the very world itself will completely vanish.
Only someone who possesses an unwavering resolve is able to accomplish that; it was a superhuman choice. That blood-stained choice cannot be judged by such things as the laws that differ according to nation, nor by morals that change according to era, nor by the standard of values that sway within an individual heart; it was something beyond good and evil. Therefore, he couldn't speak his own thoughts. That's because wishing for understanding is a desire for oneself to be given acceptance. He resigned even desire such as that. It was only just to save the world from the threat of annihilation.

What kind of existence is Testament?

[. . . bunch of deleted but still interesting stuff go read it . . .]

<>
The role of Testament is for Eternal Recurrence, but the personal purpose of each Testament is altogether different from that. They act for the sake of their own personal hopes and desires. And Wilhelm doesn't deny them. So if the Testaments' actions coincide with their purpose as a result, there isn't a problem.

The network of humanity's thoughts; the wishes of the world-- the fear, the joy, the hatred, the anger, the desire, the ambition, the dread, the hostility, and the love of countless consciousnesses. Wilhelm watches the flow of all those things and comes to know about the time called "now". To know the flow of human consciousness that exists in the lower domain is to know truth in the imaginary number domain, and because the imaginary domain exerts an effect on the real number domain, it leads to knowing everything of the lower domain.
Wilhelm has continued to watch the time called "now" since the beginning of the universe, and he discovers, as a giant flow, the next time that will come after now. In order to create a flow that is sent back to the beginning of time which will once again be here, but without being introduced into the flow that arrives at the time of destruction that is over there, he gently touches the network of countless thoughts and applies an interference that is ever-so-slight, if seen from the scale of the entire universe.
Through that repetition, he spends millennia trying to produce a flow towards Eternal Recurrence. All the while watching the fluctuating, fleeting thoughts of Man.

What is Eternal Recurrence?

Practically speaking, what kind of thing is Eternal Recurrence? To which point in time does time go back? What becomes of the memories of those who exist in the Lower Domain? Does Wilhelm remember all of the history that was repeated over again? How does the Lower Domain's circle of time look like when viewed from the Upper Domain?

Eternal Recurrence restarts the Lower Domain from the Big Bang. Due to this, the impending future of the collapse of the Dimensional Universe can be avoided. On the other hand, as the Upper Domain does not get affected by the restart of the Lower Domain, there is a continuous flow of time, and from there, the Eternal Recurrence of the Lower Domain is observed countless times.

<>
Eternal Recurrence is conducted by Wilhelm. Due to it, time becomes turned back to the moment of the Dimensional Universe's birth, i.e. the Big Bang. From there, all of history processes down the exact same flow. However, people have lost even memory, and for those who exist in the Dimensional Universe, it is something that can only be recognized as an entirely brand-new history. But, from the whole universe that contains the Upper Domain, that Dimensional Universe can perhaps be seen as if repeating the same things.
By continuing around the constructed circle of time, the arrival of the future is eternally avoided.
    That is Eternal Recurrence.

<>
When watched from U-Do who is an existence of the Upper Domain, the Eternal Recurrence of the Lower Domain may be seen as the same history repeated countless times. As if playing the same game, or watching the same drama over and over again.
Perhaps U-Do watches the Lower Domain with the feeling as if "is this same history being repeated again?"

<>
Wilhelm himself, since he too is an existence within the Dimensional Universe, is not exempt from the resetting of Eternal Recurrence. In other words, Wilhelm is also someone who forgets all memories and repeats experiences from the beginning.
Even while understanding this is so, he still aims for Eternal Recurrence.

<>
Shion and the others' decision became something different from the history that had come to repeat up to then. And because of that, Eternal Recurrence was refused-- it would not revolve once again-- and it came to be that they continued on to a different future.
Where was the main cause of that change?
It wasn't something big, an epic-making event; but rather it resulted from an accumulation of small changes.
If viewed from the Upper Domain, each time the Lower Domain repeats, a perfect copy isn't made, and small copy-errors can be discovered. And so, by the small errors that accumulate, a change which sways the core of that repeating history is produced.

[. . . deleted, fascinating stuff! . . .]

Wilhelm at that time was still maneuvering at a human-level, rather than actively using Testament. He directed the flow of funds, staged the competition of organizations, guided the running-out-of-control of Realians from the background, and sent the special Realian equipped with Program Canaan into the mayhem. Thus, he had proceeded to set the stage in order to reach Eternal Recurrence.

AND LAST BUT DEFINITELY NOT LEAST

What will Become of the Future that Rejected Eternal Recurrence?

[. . . GO READ even if the people writing it really lost their SCIENCE! here . . .]

<>
Even with light-speed travel, will perhaps the Elsa, which cannot use gate jumps, ever reach Lost Jerusalem, continuing on an aimless journey?
But as luck would have it, the Elsa and Dammerung and the rest, which had escaped from the havoc of the domain shift, had been transferred to the same galaxy as Lost Jerusalem.
    That was not mere chance.
It was an outcome due to the intention of Wilhelm, the guardian of the dimensional universe.
Wilhelm was prevented from accomplishing Eternal Recurrence. But he nevertheless, for the sake of preserving the lower domain, believed in the possibility of the people who rejected him. Even though he shall be rejected by mankind, he exists for the sake of protecting their future.
Just as the powers of Anima and Animus have not disappeared, Wilhelm's power, too, even though having lost his form, is still watching over this dimensional universe.

HELL YEAH. :D

Ahem.

Now, obviously, this information is going to affect how I play Wilhelm. Starting immediately, he's no longer as all-knowing as I was having him be. He still knows a lot, but it's limited to his universe/any universe we've established as in the past of his universe (hi Ryoutou!), and the current Recurrence.

Second, I'm removing the anti-christ label I've been sticking on him. SORRY PEOPLE THIS WILL CONFUSE, but it really doesn't apply, for while he's a partner to the triad he, chaos, and Mary form, he's not the opposite of christ, nor does he bring about the end of the world; it really, really doesn't fit him. He's still a Lucifer in many ways, but his basic nature is very definitely and without question that of a Demiurge, a protector of the physical universe. That is, in fact, his function and his purpose for existence. I might even venture to say that it is, as he would say, the phrase that truly defines him.

And last, I might consider canon-updating him, now that I know for a FACT that my suspicions about the end of the game are correct. I need to talk this over with my cast first, but if I do, then there will be a number of other changes, which I will document in an essay should I choose to go that route.

I. I am so happy right now, you all have no freaking idea. omg.

There will be another post for Canaan later on his journal, but there is FAR LESS for him, and any changes will be so minor as to be entirely unremarkable.

oh my jesus what, important canon information
