The birthday cake

She hasn't quite figured out how to "color in" designs.  That would be a heart and a balloon up top there.  :)
I really wish my handwriting/cakewriting didn't suck so much.
Kiddo was very excited to learn first-hand how to make a textured finish on a cake!  It's not perfect, but who cares?

Who needs to pipe borders when you've got Dots candies?

Very, very purple!

When we cut the first slice, everyone at the table (plus the owner of the Thai restaurant and his wife, who wanted to sing "Happy Birthday" with us) went "Oooooh!"
The Mister and I go to this particular restaurant at least 3 times a month.  We're firmly in the "regulars" category, so we got all sorts of special treatment for the birthday dinner!  We gave them a quarter of the cake to enjoy as thanks.  :)

Here it is - the purple santoku!  Pure Komachi by KAI, also the same makers of Shun knives.  Great little knife, and the price can't be beat.  Highly recommend it if you want an adorable purple knife!
Kiddo was so excited about her first kitchen knife that we had to take it to the restaurant with us to cut the cake.  :)

I love crumb photos.  All the cake photos in magazines and stuff show such perfect, sterilized slices - when's the last time you cut a cake and it looked like it was made of plastic??  Give me real-looking cake slice with crumbs and smeared frosting!

As mentioned in my last post, we did indeed get snow and we got a shitload of it. Fortunately it actually held off so we could enjoy our birthday dinner and get everyone home safely! Little Miss Birthday Girl got about the best birthday present ever - a snow day from school today. :)
