[ here, have a Kenshin, with sake. ]I am curious as to why the locals demand I hang "stockings" up. I see no reason to demand my tabi to be hung, yet this Christmas holiday is rather unusual. I do not recall such a tradition the year prior, either ( Read more... )

It's a modern Christmas tradition you see, originating in the west.

[ A beat. ]

Children hang their socks up by the fireplace in hopes that when they wake on Christmas morning, there will be presents inside.

If the locals intend to give us presents this way then, I wonder what the harm is...

Western traditions are most unusual.

This place seems to not give without a price. However, if the season is of giving, as I do believe it was last year, it may be worth the effort.

The city does seem to know what we want the most come this season... but if one would consider the quirks that come with it.

[ A beat. ]

Perhaps they'll go without the dangers this year.

Perhaps. It would be most pleasant to honor a new year without the dangers of this world.

It's actually a tradition for Christmas that originated in Germany. A very long time ago - from my perspective, at least - children would leave their shoes out on the porch for "Santa", who was called St. Nikolaus, and leave candy in their shoes. Over the years, the tradition slowly changed until it was a stocking over the fireplace, which was the way Santa would enter the house.

Most of the traditions of Christmas as a holiday revolve around the spirit of gift exchange, and the character of Santa is meant to reward children that have been well-behaved during the year.

Foreign traditions are most unusual. However, this holiday does seem quite amicable, a pleasant change from the previous.

Do you mean Halloween?

Indeed. Halloween is another unusual holiday. I would expect residents to frighten the oni, but instead they choose to frighten one another and demand candy.

*Selphie storms out of her room after seeing the SFC, and she storms through the house until she finds Kenshin. In her hands is a huge red stocking with a picture of a snowman on the front*

[ Kenshin is hardly difficult to find, as he's at the living room table, sitting with his feet tucked underneath him as he sips tea calmly.

He looks up to see her and offers her a friendly nod in greetings. ]

Greetings, Selphie. What have you there?

*Selphie plops herself comfortably next to Kenshin and hands the stocking over*

This is the stocking thing! I got us matching ones! And I've heard that people fill them with treats!

[ he turns the large creation over in his hands a few times. ]

I see. They hardly seem practical for wearing.

Is that what it is called? Hm, I see. [Interesting.]

I miss it as well. It's strange not to see it, when it is normally a common occurrence.

Indeed. That is the name the locals gave it the year prior.

Snow fell last Christmas yet it has not fallen thus far. A pity indeed.

That is a pity. Hopefully the snow falls again, it would be welcome.

I hope, as well. It simply would not be winter without snow.

Perhaps it is simply one of their holiday customs, Uesugi-dono! It seems every Clan has some special festivities of their own.

Though it does make things look like the town's tabi have all just been laundered!

[ The young samurai laughs, before his eyes widen abruptly. ]

I do hope they would not take offense to the comparison, however --

[ Oh wonderful! His world's Yukimura ]

It is a foreign custom, Tiger Cub. A rather odd one, at that.

[ he waits for Yukimura to finish. ] However...?

I only meant that I hope they would not be offended that I find it humorous.

The locals rarely seem to take offense from us outsiders.
