That has happened to me many times. When that happens just relax and breath. Sometimes I feel like I do have someone sitting on my chest. I have gotten to the point where I can control my dreams especially the recurring ones.
Once I quickly woke up and forgot which side of the bed I was sleeping on and rammed my head into the wall. I went back to sleep after that.
