the scientific side in me says they were seeing one side of the charge for a lightning ball building up and that something in the equiptment blew when the bolts began to come down.
The company that run these things have been rather milking the situation, "Ooo UFO, we can't discount anything, we haven't found the blade".
An interesting explanation I heard this morning was that an MOD stealth UAV was being tested around there, plausible given the fact that there is a bombing range next door. So small stealth UAV with lights...possibly discharging defense flares...hits a turbine. Gets cleaned up very quickly.
Or more likely, the blade just broke off (it's not unheard of), the other blade hit it and sent it some distance away.
Or there is a very happy old one clutching his newly acquired blade in a dark recess of the universe. :)
