'Matt, I'm really sorry about the way I treated you... I didn't know so much could happen in two days, but in two days I've lost one hell of a guy, and fallen for another one. I'm really, really sorry for not explaining things better for you, and I just wanna tell you that what we had wasn't just me using you for sex. It was something more, but not exactly the right more. In the end I felt that our relationship was just more a "friends with benefits" sort of relationship, and I shouldn't have kissed Jack whilst you and me were still together. I should have broken up with you and explained it to you. I shouldn't be over you this fast, and I'm not over you, I'm just not .. I don't know, things are different now and I just wish you could pick up so we could talk, Matt. I miss you and love you. Please call back soon.'

It had been three whole weeks since they had gotten back and Matt still hadn't uttered a word to Alex. Not even when Alex had stopped him in the middle of the hallway between math and History had Matt talked to him. He had just glared at him and ripped away his arm from Alex's grasp and walked. Alex had called him, texted him and contacted him on every social networking site he knew Matt was a member of.

Jack had been hanging around at Alex's house a lot, and Alex had been at Jack's house a couple of times too, but it didn't feel right when Matt was still mad at him.

'Hey, he'll come around, Lex,' Jack said, tracing small patterns on Alex's back. 'It's just weird for him still, he probably thought he loved you and that has to suck for the kid.'

'I know, but we weren't just together you know, he was a really good friend too and he trusted me, Jack. He trusted me and I betrayed him right in front of his eyes. It's not fucking fair,' Alex sighed.

'If it makes you feel better I heard that he fooled around with John Oh at a party last week.

Guess that you're not the only one hurting..

'How do you know that?' Alex grumbles, not making it any easier for him. Had Matt moved on that fast? It had only been three weeks and if Matt's feelings were as strong as Alex had thought, well, he was sorta butthurt.

'I have my sources, Alex,' Jack laughed and patted his back before jumping out of the bed and walking over to the television. 'Now stop that pity party you're holding over there and come try and beat my ass in Call of Duty,' he said throwing the controller over to Alex.

'Sweety, me and your dad are going out now, we left some money so you two can order you some pizza and snack,' Alex's mom said and hugged the two of them.

'Thanks. By the way, when are you coming back?'

'Tomorrow morning. We're staying at a hotel since it's a long drive. Goodbye, love you,' she said before walking out.

'Love you too,' Alex said back.

*

'All the opportunities we have,' Jack smirked. 'We could throw a party, get high or drunk or both, we can do almost anything we want to,' he said rolling over on his back, nursing the food baby he was sporting.

'I guess.. Or we can just watch movies and cuddle,' Alex smiled, not fancying the thought of getting drunk. Last weekend was still a black hole in his mind.

'Cuddle?' Jack grinned and sat up. 'So we can cuddle now?' he laughed.

'Yeah, I guess we can,' Alex nodded.

*

'You're really fucking ugly when you make that earthworm face,' Jack laughed at Alex. They were sitting in the couch in the living room eating pizza and making ridiculous faces at each other.

'Oh-oh, look at this one,' Jack laughed, drawing his face back and crossing his eyes. It was really ugly to say the least but they had fun and that was basically all that mattered.

'C-can I kiss you?' Alex asked shyly, avoiding eye contact.

'You wanna kiss me after watching me making ugly faces,' he laughed. 'Well, I probably can't deny you that privilege,' he said, inching closer to Alex. 'You sure about this?'

'Positive,' Alex nodded, placing his hand at the back of Jack's neck, tangling his fingers in the strands of the hair at his neck. Jack's breath was ghosting over Alex's lips and they were so close, yet so far away. Just when their lips were barely touching the doorbell rang.

'Are you fucking kidding me?' Alex hissed, looking over to the door, not really seeing anything or anyone for that matter.

'You better go see who it is,' Jack said, looking down.

'I'm sorry,' Alex said, getting up to open the door.

'Is this where Isobel and Peter Gaskarth lives?' a tall muscly man asked.

'Yeah, they're not in now, but I can .. uh ... get them to call you or something?' Alex asked, not really recognizing the other man.

'I'm sorry, but you have to come down to the police station with us,' he said.

'What?' Alex said, not realizing his hands were shaking until Jack was standing behind him, clasping his hands in his.

'Your parents have been in a serious car accident and we need you to come down to the police station to see if you can help us with identification about the driver considering he had no papers and his car was stolen. Normally we would've had someone more grown up doing this, but we couldn't find any relatives nearby so you were the only choice we had. Again, I'm really sorry but you have to come now,' he said gesturing for Alex to follow him.

'A-are they still alive?' he asked, tears soaked with tears. An equal as sad Jack was sitting in the back with Alex, trying his best to stay strong for the two of them.

'Alive yes, stable no. They've lost an unhealthy amount of blood and there is no way to be certain if they are going to survive the night. I'll drive the two of you to the hospital right after you're done at the station. Again, I'm really sorry for having you doing this,' he said, glancing up in the rear view mirror.

'What if they die, Jack? Where am I supposed to live? What am I supposed to do? I can't handle them dying, Jack,' he sobbed into Jack's shoulder.

'We'll figure it out. We'll figure it out,' he whispered and pressed a soft kiss to the top of Alex's head.

'Promise you won't ever leave me?'

'Never,' Jack promised.

*

The hospital walls were painted a dull white and the pictures on the walls in the waiting room were depressing. Every time a doctor would walk by Alex jumped out of the chair in case anyone had news about his parents. All he knew were that they were being operated and it had been an hour since the last time someone had talked to him about his parents.

Jack was just down the hallway getting some coffee for them so they wouldn't fall asleep, although Alex wouldn't mind some sleep. He was exhausted, it was four am and he didn't know if his parents would survive the night or not. His cheeks were red and puffy and he was pretty sure he hadn't cried this much in his whole life.

'Alex, do you think you should try and get some sleep?' Jack said, stroking the tips of his fingers gently over Alex's arm. 'You look so tired.'

'I can't. What if the doctors comes to tell us something and I'm asleep?'

'I promise I'll wake you up the moment the doctors come in,' Jack said, patting for Alex to sit in his lap so he could try and sleep somewhat comfortably.

*

An hour later Alex was sleeping lightly in Jack's lap when a doctor came in.

'Lex, wake up. The doctors are here,' Jack said, gently nudging Alex who instantly woke up.

'Mr. Gaskarth, I'm so sorry...'

'No, no, no,' Alex repeated over and over again, tears trickling down his cheeks. His hands flew to his ears, refusing to hear the bullshit the doctor was saying. The doctor didn't know shit about how he felt. He couldn't be sorry. He said that every day, like a mantra.

His chest got tighter and he had to sit down, he sat down on the middle of the floor, bawling his eyes out. He couldn't understand how the two most important persons in his life could disappear just like that. Stop being a part of his life physically. All he had now was memories. Memories that would eventually fade.

'Lex, calm down.. We'll figure it out,' Jack soothed, but it didn't help. It wasn't Jack who had just lost his mom and dad. It wasn't Jack that had just lost the only two people he could trust with all of him. Memories of when his dad had teached him to ride a bike back in England when he was four and when he and his mom had made gingerbread men at their first Christmas in America. Memories of when they went shopping for his first day at high school or when he got his first guitar or when they re-decorated his bedroom because he didn't want soccer players on his wall.

Then he remembered the arguments. The arguments where he had shouted 'I hate you' at the top of his lungs, when he locked himself in his bedroom when he had told him that he didn't care if they just disappeared and never came back. Or that one time when he said that he'd rather be dead than live with them.

He wondered if they knew that he never meant it, that it was something he just said when he was angry. He never meant that he hated his parents. He didn't. He loved them more than anything and now they were gone. Ripped away from him. No warning about them dying. No time for him to apologize for all the stupid stuff he had done in the past.

Gone.
