So, I've not yet had a job where I've had to wear semi-professional/professional clothes on a daily basis. I've either been in uniforms with khakis or basically told I could wear anything casual (i.e. jeans, plain color and appropriate screened shirts, shorts, etc.) in my Americorps year. Therefore, suddenly having to wear business casual on a ( Read more... )

I like Birkenstocks, but they feel like walking on rocks for at least a week after you buy them. A breaking-in period.

When I was on my feet all day (teachign full time) I eventually started wearing sneakers, but I don't really like wearing sneakers. If I go back to that job I'll have to research and buy some expensive fancy shoes or some kind. Hmmm.

Yeah, teachers (meaning people with teaching contracts) can afford to wear sneakers. Also, elementary school teachers tend to dress more casually in general, I think? Very few female teachers wear sneakers except on Fridays.

Some dress casually because they have to runnin' around the classroom (and perhas even crawling on the floor) and dealing with 25 kindergarteners!

But some dress up. I'd rather dress up if I could. I hate sneakers! But it's hard to find comfortable dressy shoes.

Feet are annoying. Not only to I have to stand all day, but last summer I got custom made orthotics. They make my feet (and hips and knees and back) feel a lot better, BUT I have to have shoes they fit in. My dress shoes are all non-heeled slip on Easy Spirit or Aerosoles. All rounded or boxed toe. I had to give up on cute shoes years ago. I decided I just don't care if my shoes are ugly if I can still stand at the end of the day. :)

However, since I am in an elementary school I do tend to wear kakhis and sneakers on a regular basis :)
