I sometimes have difficulties with the "popular" kids because even at elementary ages, I often find them to be jerky and obnixous and I don't get the popularity thing. I try to help out the outcast smart kids, because I know what it's like to be that kid.

I sure hope you get a good middle school teacher. My middle school experience was awful. The teacher was nice as a person, but I didn't feel like she was helping so much. I felt so inadequate as a teacher when I was in middle school and it cemented my ideas that elementary school was my place. However, a couple years ago when I switched with a middle school media specialist for a couple weeks, I found it was much easier. I think I'm much better at teaching my 5th grade attitude kids now than I used to be so that might have helped. I think it has to do with the identity thing you talked about ... the more they're looking for it , the more they don't even know how to act for an adult.

Good luck ... the change is so amazing!
