IN a casual sense, I'm pro military. My brother is in the army, and he's getting paid to see the world, meet interesting people (and blow them up? hm. Actually referring to his battle buddies), he gets school benefits, etc. For a guy who was pretty directionless, that's a good offer, and I'm glad he took it. I also understand national defense

I would have to agree with you here. It just seems all to easy to have these "amazing" machines bring so much destruction, just so this man over here can claim his is bigger.

I don't feel like "war" even happens anymore. It's almost become a spectator sport. I am sure that we would horribly offend anyone that has had the experience out there in the field of battle by saying these things, but really I dare to question the whole idea.

It really is basically a high-risk job, like being a cop. Pay, benefits, time off, semi-regular hours. Well, that's the American version, anyway.

I just think terrorism would be a lot harder if they had nothing to terrorize with.

I understand that being in the Army is all of that, especially in the U.S. of A. Actually has been very positive for many people. So, not hatin' on that. I just sometimes get the "hippie" mentality of why is it always war? What is it that we all have to prove so much? And it becomes more and more about the sophisticated weaponry than the actual "reasons" at times (so it seems to the untrained, media fed eyes of the general public of course)

The whole terrorism bit....I can't even wrap my mind around that. It's like overgrown, attention starved children...I just don't get it.

I AM an hippie-type, and I think you're full of crap. The very moment disarmament occurs, a new threat will show itself armed then as such that they simply walk(as in fly) across the planet taking it all for themselves and crushing any who dare say 'boo'. While the idea of no war is lovely, the thought that people would agree to step backward 500 years of technology for the sake of killing each other more fairly is so ridiculous I can barely believe myself hearing it coming out of even you. Ramming a sword through someones gut and watching the life drain from their eyes much like the blood draining down upon your boots isn't any better than lobbing a grenade in a hole. Either way produces callused-mindless killers. One who enjoys watching people die and will carrying their new found fetish home with them, and one who gets off on the sounds and smells and pressures of automatic weapons fire and explosives. At least there are jobs available between wars for someone who is well trained in demolition, there are no such jobs for butchers

1) If every aggressive force on the planet is disarmed, then the new threat you're talking about is extraterrestrial, which I don't buy. I also don't buy leftover KKK saying "Yeehaw, finally we have a chance to get together and drive across America killing black folk!"

2) Nobody's losing technology except armed forces. We still keep the internet, planes, etc.

3) Partially for the sake of killing more fairly, and partially for the sake of removing collateral damage. The primary outrage I've heard about the Israeli offensive is the number of kids and UN peace volunteers dying. It's patently ridiculous that it's acceptable to blow up a perfectly useful building to get to a dozen holed-up terrorists. It's kinda hard to do that with a sword, yes?

I feel weird playing games on the PSP at home when I have better systems and a bigger screen to use. I almost wish I had a train commute or something so I'd have a proper excuse to play the thing.
